Facebook whores!

Don't get me wrong, I like Facebook, in fact I love Facebook. But at the same time things about it really bug me. For instance, when people add you because they have a vague idea who you are, or they've seen you before. But then when said person sees you in the street, or in the pub, they still ignore you! I believe there is in fact a Facebook group called something along the lines of "Don't add me as a friend then blank me in the street."

Another thing that bugs me, is people's in depth status updates. I'm fairly sure the status update is meant as a bit of a laugh, and to give others a chance to "Facebook rape" you. But when people change their status's to things such as "Soandso hopes that he will realise what he's lost and come to his senses soon until then I'm just going to get on with my life and F**k you all"...I'm not being rude...but who cares? I have no idea who or what that person is on about, and quite frankly have no interest in finding out! My brother described Facebook status's as "a running commentary of people's lives." And it's true. Admittedly some of them can be quite hilarious at times which is great because that's what it's meant for. But when people change their status to "... is crying and needs a hug"...er...hello? Attention seeker anyone?

This rant could go one forever, but another thing, I am a self confessed camera whore. But when people are posting and tagging the photo's as quick as they are being taken I just can't keep up. When the morning after a night out is spent in a frantic panic trying to get last nights pictures uploaded as quick as possible. They all look the same to everyone else! "This is us in a club...this is us in the club again...Oh, this is us pulling silly faces in the club!". It's like holiday photo's, the only people who want to see those, are the people who are in them, because they mean nothing to anyone else.

Oh! And another thing (I'm really getting going now), all the applications! "... has thrown a sheep at you! Do you want to throw one back?". So you think, er...yeah ok. Then, just to throw a sheep in return you have to download hundreds of things, invite all your "friends" to throw a sheep also, and then sign your life away! Ok so I may be exaggerating a little! Oh and the worst: " ... has said what they think of you. Click here to find out what they said!". No! They haven't said anything, it's a ploy to get me to add yet another application. Maybe I should start my own Facebook group called "Say NO to applications!".

Facebook is great when it is used for it's intended use, to get in touch with old school friends and distant relatives, but is totally abused by people who for some reason, enjoy their private life being broadcast over the internet. I think there's a name for these people, attention seekers...alternatively....Facebook whores!

  1. Some excellent observations. I think I myself may, on occasion, be guilty of said attention seeking. You are quite right about the photos though, and it tends to be females that are the main culprits!
